Micah Not Found: A Millenial Pop Artist

Fine Art meets Pop Culture on @Micahnotfound – an Instagram page that acts as an interactive timeline, documenting all things pop culture from rap beefs to movie premiers and everything in between. The magnificent ode to pop culture was created by Micah Milner, painter turned graphic designer, who is a part of the art collective (or artup – as he calls it) Art 404. Micah is the graphic designer, but he also works with a team of web artists – partnering with Manual, the companies branding machine, and Moises, a conceptual artist who is also in charge of production. Their work has been featured in Complex Magazine, Yahoo, BuzzFeed, and Vice, just to name a few. I got a chance to chat with Micah about his process, his inspiration, and how he creates commercial art without compromising the integrity of his work. Micah samples his work in a similar fashion to musicians – overworking existing images to make them his own and incorporating them in a much larger “almanac of [events] to create a multifaceted  experience.” Timing is …

Karrueche Tran’s New Short Film: PRXDE

“What’s the price of pride?” Tran asks. Two girls appear in a dimly lit warehouse, surrounded by a crowd of seemingly hostile onlookers – thirsty for blood. The crowd shrieks with excitement as the two girls start throwing jabs, uppercuts, hooks, and kicks. Who will be the last one standing? Tran stars in New Millennial’s short film PRXDE – presented by Flaunt Magazine. The film centers around a street fight between two girls (Karrueche Tran and Jazzma Crofton) and seems to highlight the lengths that humans are willing to go to in order to survive and the cost of entertainment. The director, Mike Ware, does an incredible job at capturing the anger and intensity of the fight – effectively making use of quickly-changing camera angles and slow motion. The fight is very well choreographed and both Tran and Crofton do an excellent job at executing it. See for yourselves!

Coloring Beauty X Beauty Bolt

I got a chance to sit down with, and interview, Namrata Mohan – a Scripps College student hailing from Irvine, California – who started a photo project called, “Coloring Beauty.” Namrata started the project because she was “irked by the oppressive beauty standards in her community,” and believed that more diverse forms of beauty, in both men and women, were undervalued. This project is so inspirational and I think it is so relevant seeing as there has been a movement and call to action to celebrate people of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Lupita Nyong’o’s crowning as People Magazine’s Most Beautiful Person (2014) is a perfect example of celebrating a form of beauty not typically seen in mass media. Watch the interview below! Namrata Mohan – a Scripps College student – started the Coloring Beauty photo project to bring light to issues surrounding American beauty standards, and to show some appreciation for unconventional beauty.
